Today at Waratah 2 the children engaged in scientific learning and discovery. We explored concepts of force, motion and movement through a fun and engaging balloon experiment. The children were very curious about the experiment that was being set up in the outdoor environment and couldn’t wait to join in the fun. Educator Gina blew up the balloons attached to straws on the string line and posed questions such as “I wonder why the balloon moved along the string when we took the peg off?” and “ Why did the larger balloon go further?”
The children demonstrated their fantastic knowledge of scientific concepts responding with confidence; “The air is coming out of the balloon and makes it move.”, “ The biggest balloon goes further because it’s got more air.”
Each child had a turn of releasing the balloon and observing its trajectory as it was propelled along the string line. Some of the children raced the balloon using their own ideas to resource their learning.
WE ARE BECOMING SCIENTISTS.
