💫Helping children to cope with anxiety during the outbreak at Waratah 2.💫
Reports regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to dominate the media and our every day conversations. With change and discussions occurring all around them, it is natural for children to have questions or to be experiencing some anxiety. Children will inevitably pick up on the concerns and anxiety of others, whether this be through listening and observing what is happening at home or at school. Parents, teachers and trusted adults play a significant role in helping children make sense of what they hear in a way that minimizes their anxiety during this challenging time.
Over the weeks the Desert Rose room has been investigating the Coronavirus – What is it? What does it look like? From this they created collaborative paintings of the virus.
They were also involved in group discussions;
What are Symptoms of the virus? “Runny nose and coughing” said Benson. “From people we get the virus” said Macey. “You spread the germs and you can’t go outside” said Archie.
How do we avoid it? “Stay home” said Harry. “Go to the doctors” said Hannah. “Take medicine” said Benson. “Wash your hands” said Eamon.
