Over the past couple of weeks, the Pelican children at Fern Bay have been exploring different occupations. This learning began with the children’s strong interest in our veterinary home corner. Educators extended this interest by asking the children what they would like to be when they grow up, which sparked many meaningful conversations and helped guide the program.

A couple of weeks ago the Pelican class focused on firefighters as an occupation. We were fortunate enough to welcome a visit from the Stockton Fire Brigade, with both the Pelican and Seagull classes taking part. The firefighters shared an engaging safety talk, teaching the children what to do in the event of a fire and introducing them to the protective equipment they wear to keep themselves safe.

The excitement continued outside, where the children had the opportunity to explore the fire truck up close. They even had a turn using the fire hose before walking around the truck with the firefighters, learning about the different equipment and the important role each piece plays in helping keep our community safe.
