National Science Week – Rutherford
✨ National Science Week with Rutherford Tillys! ✨
The Tigers did experiments making Volcanoes in the sandpit using vinegar and bicarbonate soda. We also did a rainbow skittle experiment using skittles on a plate and covering them in water to see what would happen. The Tigers are having so much fun participating and investigating in these experiments! 🌈
The preschool children engaged in a milk and food colouring experiment. After adding the milk and several drops of food colouring into a container, we added some detergent and watched the mixture change. The children gasped as all the colour dispersed to the edge of the container leaving just the milk! 💥
The Monkey children in our toddlers room have explored volume and cause and effect as part of our experiences for National Science Week. We discussed with the children how much water was in the jars before hypothesising what would happen if we mixed food colouring in with the water. We used droppers to drop the food colouring into the water and watched as it spread throughout the jar. The children were in awe of the affect this had as it puffed into coloured clouds until mixing fully into a solid colour. We then used the water to paint with, experimenting how it would change once added to the paper. 🌟
Today it was all about “sensory” with the Tigers making cloud dough using flour and conditioner. Whether we got the mixture right will remain a mystery but the children had a blast kneading the conditioner into the flour, slowly turning it from a powder, to a paste, to a dough. The Tigers later decided to use the excess flour as face paint. ☁️
