Tillys Play and Development Centre Muswellbrook is a 47 place early childhood centre for children aged 6 weeks – 6 years. Our centre has three rooms: a 12 place Nursery room for children aged 0-2, a 15 place Toddler room for children aged 2-3 and a 20 place preschool room for children aged 3-5. A big benefit to our smaller centre is the familiarity for the children with all educators working throughout the centre which assists with easing transitions for children between rooms as they progress from the nursery, to the toddler room and through to the preschool room. Our educators work a consistent roster to allow children and families to know who will be present each morning on drop off as well as pick up time in the afternoon. Our centre is open on Monday to Friday from 6:30am through till 6:30pm for 51 weeks of the year.
At Tillys Play and Development Centre Muswellbrook we value the uniqueness and individuality of each child and the strengths and knowledge each child brings to our learning environment. We offer a play based learning environment that allows children to explore their interests, learn, grow and develop with the support of our qualified educators and the guidance of the Early Years Learning Framework. In each of our rooms, the children are given the opportunity to engage in a variety of experiences. We include areas for art and craft, play dough or clay, building and construction with blocks, cars and trucks, table activities for puzzles, fine motor development and furthering cognitive skills, as well as home corners for imaginative and role play, quiet spaces for books and reading, and so much more.
We have recently begun to implement the Strengths Stars approach within our daily program which focuses on identifying, building and exploring each child’s character strengths. The Strengths Stars Framework is designed for young children and aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework and the guiding principles and practices to respond to individual children’s unique characters, interests and mix of strengths. A strength based approach to early childhood focuses on building children’s self-confidence, self-esteem, self-regulation and building connections with educators and peers.
Each of our three rooms open up onto large outdoor play spaces. The outdoor yards incorporate generous amounts of shade from trees and shade sails with the opportunity for natural sun to shine through. The outdoor play spaces encourage children to explore each area at their own pace, with the invitation to discover the large fort with climbing wall and slides, obstacle courses, bike tracks and sandpits, as well as quiet areas for reading, puzzles and imaginative play.
At our 2019 awards night, Tillys Muswellbrook’s Educator of the Year was awarded to Sophie Thompson for her excellence and dedication to Early Childhood Education and Care.
