International Mud Day is celebrated annually on June 29th. It is a global initiative dedicated to encouraging children and adults to get outside, connect with nature, and embrace messy, unstructured play.
Today at Rutherford Tillys the children from the Tiger room were treated to a variety of mud-inspired activities and encouraged to explore, investigate and make a whole lot of mess!
We read the story of “Peppa’s Muddy Festival” and then created a muddy festival of our own to enjoy.
We started with created a muddy festival of kitchen and restaurant, where the children were able to use their imaginations through dramatic play to mix and cook their own mud cakes, mud pies, mud ice cream and muddy dinner to serve to their teachers and peers.
Next, a wonderful interest-based monster truck muddy tuff tray set up with tunnels, rocks, ramps, tyres and an oobleck water swap, where the children could drive their monster trucks around the track and through the various obstacles, before heading to the car wash to clean up!
Finally, a chance to create their own mud-monsters with some muddy Playdough and natural loose parts materials.
A lot of mess, and a lot of fun!
