The Sustainability Squad at Tillys Gillieston Heights works closely with our educators, children and families to embed sustainable practices throughout the service. The squad has established a relationship with the Maitland City Council to hold incursions over the coming months to support the children in becoming environmentally responsible as they learn about recycling, gardening, water conservation and energy saving.
This week the preschoolers were lucky to have a visit from Fiona, Maitland City Councils Sustainability officer to present the children with the “Three Bin System”. This supported the children to learn more about the bin systems we use and how to properly recycle. The children were then invited to work together to conduct their own waste audit where they sorted a variety of items into their correct coloured bin sharing their knowledge and understanding with their educators.
