Thank you, Monique and Jilene from Hunter Dental Group, for coming to our Rutherford centre last week and educating us on dental hygiene.
Our Meerkats, Monkeys, Lions and Tigers children listened to Ms Monique and Ms Jilene as we learned how many spoonfuls of sugar are in the following drinks –
• Coke bottle – 16 spoonfuls of sugar,
• Flavoured milk – 6 spoonfuls of sugar,
• Energy drink – 8 spoonfuls of sugar,
• Orange juice – 6 spoonfuls of sugar,
• Bottle of water – 0 spoonfuls of sugar.
Water is the best drink because it doesn’t have sugar in it.
We also learnt what foods are a ‘sometimes food’ or ‘food we can eat everyday’. We took turns identifying what food we can have every day or sometimes.
Lewi showed us a picture of a lolly pop which we knew was a ‘sometimes food’.
Adam showed us a picture of a banana and straight he placed the banana in the ‘clean mouth’.
Gwen showed us a picture of a carrot and she knew that this food we can eat every day.
Odin and Bella showed us a picture of orange juice. Odin and Bella briefly thought about which mouth to place it in. Then we reminded them that orange juice has 6 spoonsful of sugar and said this is a ‘sometimes drink’.
We also learnt how to brush our teeth correctly. Brushing our teeth clockwise counting 1 to 10, then Brushing our teeth anti-clockwise counting 1 to 10.
