Abermain Reconciliation Week
Last week Tillys at Abermain had been celebrating Reconciliation Week with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Aunty Michelle visited the centre and did a traditional smoking ceremony with the children and educators in the rock pit area. The children and educators were painted with ceremonial paint and were told that a smoking ceremony is performed to get all the bad energy and spirits away if they were present. This was thoroughly enjoyable and a great experience for the children.
We also engaged in lots of art and craft experiences to embed the cultures into the service, and we have also been lucky enough to have one of our dads visit to talk to the children in his tribes language! He also told dream time stories and encouraged animal dancing with the children while playing the tapping sticks. The children have also been learning about the cultures during group time. What a fun week they have had together! 🌿
