What Is a QIP? (Quality Improvement Plan)
You may have heard your centre mention a QIP, or Quality Improvement Plan — but what does that actually mean?
In early childhood education and care, a QIP is an important document that helps services reflect, grow and continuously improve the quality of care and education they provide.
At Tillys, our QIP is a key part of how we ensure we are always striving to provide the very best for children and families.
What Is a Quality Improvement Plan?
A Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) is a working document that outlines:
- What a service is doing well
- Areas that could be improved
- Goals for ongoing improvement
- Strategies to achieve those goals
It is guided by the National Quality Standard (NQS) and covers all aspects of a centre’s operations — from education programs to health and safety, relationships and leadership.
Why Is a QIP Important?
A QIP helps ensure that quality isn’t just maintained — it continues to grow and evolve.
It supports services to:
- Reflect on current practices
- Identify strengths and areas for development
- Set clear goals for improvement
- Track progress over time
- Stay aligned with best practice and regulations
Most importantly, it ensures children are always receiving the highest standard of care and education.
How Tillys Uses the QIP
At Tillys, our QIP is not something we look at once a year — it is part of our everyday practice.
Our teams:
- Regularly reflect on what is working well
- Engage in ongoing discussions and team meetings
- Review policies, procedures and practices
- Set meaningful, achievable goals
- Celebrate progress and improvements
This continuous reflection helps our educators grow professionally and ensures we are always improving outcomes for children.
How Families Can Contribute
Families are a vital part of the QIP process. Your voice, experiences and ideas help shape the direction of your child’s centre.
You can contribute by:
- Sharing feedback, suggestions or ideas with educators or leadership
- Participating in surveys or feedback opportunities
- Engaging in conversations about your child’s learning and experience
- Attending family meetings or events
- Contributing ideas for improvements or changes
Even small pieces of feedback can make a big difference.
Working Together for Quality
A strong QIP reflects a partnership between educators, children and families. When everyone contributes, we create a richer, more responsive and higher-quality learning environment.
At Tillys, we value family input and see you as an important part of our continuous improvement journey.
Growing and Improving Together
A Quality Improvement Plan is more than a requirement — it’s a commitment to ongoing growth, reflection and excellence.
Through our QIP, we ensure our educators and staff are always learning, improving and striving to provide the best possible environment for children to learn, grow and thrive.
At Tillys, we are proud to continuously reflect, improve and evolve — because your children deserve nothing less. 💛🌱
