Tillys Waratah 2 have been reaching out and giving back to our community. The children, families and teachers in our Kangaroo Paw room have been collecting donations for the Newcastle Night Angels Homeless Shelter. Our families have generously donated breakfast food items including cereal, water, milk, chips, containers and poppers for the children to put together into small packs to give to the homeless. They have also been cooking hot meals to donate to the shelter such as spaghetti bolognaise, sausages and mash potato with veggies. The children have shown a wonderful sense of generosity and have been thinking of new ways they would like to help the less fortunate and give back to our community.
This sense of generosity has extended into our baby rooms where the teachers are currently supporting our local Ronald McDonald House, who are in need of more supplies. We have reached out to our families to join in this and have been overwhelmed by how much our families are willing to give. Donna in our Wattle room has been gathering the donations and will take them up to the hospital next week.
We have also taken part in fun centre events such as dress up weeks and teddy bears picnic to raise money for the Cancer Council & Heart Kids. We plan to participate in other charity events such as Jeans for Genes day, Beanies for Brain Cancer and Daffodil Day! This small part of our centre allows the children and educators to stay in touch with our local community and give back what we can to the less fortunate. We pride ourselves in teaching the children about different virtues such as generosity, caring, helpfulness and thankfulness.
